We start our journey leaving the hotel to travel to the north of the island, with our bags strapped to the back of the interceptor. We make a stop for breakfast, though a large crowd means we’ll have to wait a bit longer to eat. The roads on the island are superb, especially in Spanish territory, making for a perfect ride for sports bike enthusiasts despite the 70km/h speed limit. We then enjoy hamburgers and chips for breakfast and a Caprese sandwich.
The scenery is spectacular, with beautiful flowers by the roadside and well-designed barriers that don’t detract from the view. We advise against going to the very top of the volcano, as it’s very expensive, and you can’t actually get to the very top and see the crater, but the views from the roadside are just as spectacular and free. We then descend the volcano, noting the magnificent views and the signs with European bureaucracy. We’re heading to Porto de la Cruz to swap the interceptor for another bike at the northern office of Easy Rider. We pass through an area where trees were burnt in a forest fire, noting how the leaves have grown back, showcasing nature’s resilience. The landscape changes dramatically as we go down, and we even experience riding through clouds, which is a first. The descent includes some incredibly steep roads, making for an exhilarating and at times scary ride. Finally, we arrive at the sea in Puerto de la Cruz, having ridden from the south of the island, up Mount Teide, and down the other side. We check into our hotel, settle in, and explore the town, noting it’s quieter than expected for the season. We also highlight the impressive battery life and quick capture mode of the Insta360 X5 camera, recommending it for capturing amazing shots. We conclude with a delicious dinner and look forward to exploring spectacular mountain roads to a village in the clouds the next day.
