We don’t usually like adventure bikes, so reviewing the Suzuki V-Strom 800DE wasn’t the obvious choice.

In this review, Mr Darcy & The Ol’ Man take the V-Strom 800DE out for a real-world test ride to find out what Suzuki has built here, and whether an adventure bike designed as a tool rather than a fashion statement can win us over.
On the road, the 800DE proves to be impressively capable. The engine is strong, usable and confidence-inspiring, the chassis feels planted and predictable, and everything about the bike works exactly as intended. It’s dependable, honest, and engineered to get on with the job — whatever that job might be.
What we struggle with is the way it looks.
Suzuki hasn’t tried to make the 800DE pretty, and that’s deliberate. This isn’t a bike chasing trends or posing outside coffee shops. It’s built to be functional, reliable, and hard-wearing. A motorcycle designed to be used, not admired.
So who is this bike actually for?
