Have we really gone too far? In which way does this 1968 Triumph thrash modern motorcycles?
We have one of the most beautiful and perfectly designed motorcycles ever made! The 1968 Triumph Daytona 500 T100T. It totally eclipses the design of most modern motorcycles, with few exceptions, that being the Royal Enfield 350’s and 650’s, Triumph Bonneville Modern Classics, The Kawasaki W series (sadly not available in Britain any more), the BSA Goldstar, the Benelli Imperiale 400 and…well; can you think of any?
We use the old Triumph to explain our points about motorcycle design, and how ridiculous some modern motorcycle features have become, such as minuscule mudguards, sloping seats, plastic panelling, horrendous plastic extenders housing the rear number plate and lights, ugly engines and exhaust pipes etc. The 500cc Triumph Daytona thrashes them all!
This is our grand finale on the subject, and after this, we will only mention such features in passing.
The purpose of the video is not only to draw attention to design and style, but to challenge the status quo, because sometimes, unchallenged, things can evolve unchecked – and that has proven to be true. Those of you who comment to disagree strongly, only go to prove the point even more.
