Harley-Davidson just released the new Deadwood, a stripped-down cruiser inspired by Sturgis, Deadwood, and the winding roads of the Black Hills. But when you compare the Harley Deadwood to the Heritage Classic, some of Harley’s decisions raise serious questions.
The Deadwood keeps many of the Heritage Classic’s best ingredients, including the Milwaukee-Eight 117 Classic, five-gallon fuel tank, 16-inch wheels, classic styling, and modern rider safety technology. However, Harley also removed the saddlebags, passenger accommodations, full-size windshield, hydraulic suspension adjustment, and some rear suspension travel.
So, did Harley create the perfect motorcycle for Main Street in Sturgis—but compromise the things that make the Heritage Classic so good for actually riding to and through Sturgis?
